Langtang Valley Ganja La Pass Trek

Langtang valley Ganja la Pass Trek is a classic and adventure trek in Langtang region. After driving around 7 hours from Kathmandu, trek starts from Syabrubesi. The trekking trail passes through attractive rice terraces, ancient Buddhist monasteries, beautiful villages and famous Ganja La Pass. Moreover, the company of dense bamboo and rhododendron forests, majestic streams and rivers, delightful local villages and panoramic snowcapped peaks of mountains make the trek most diverse. During the trek, the trekkers will enjoy facilities of local tea houses up to Kyanjing Gompa and then experience overnight life in tented camp.

 

The trek starts from Syabrubesi and goes along with ancient Buddhist monastery Kanyanjing Gompa (3,740m) crosses the famous Ganja La Pass (5,122m) and ends at the Melamchi Pul Bazar Helambu. The trail reaches summit of Ganja La offers panoramic views of the various mountains range including Annapurna range, Langtang range and Tibetan range. During the treks you will have chance to experience the culture, tradition and rituals of the Sherpa people in the Himalayas.

Itinerary

After arrival at Kathmandu airport our company representatives will welcome you and then transfer to hotel. After time to get refreshed, evening we'll meet and transfer for welcome dinner in one of the typical Nepalese restaurant in the heart of Kathmandu and briefing about your trip. Overnight at hotel with Bed & Breakfast basis.

Today, after breakfast you'll visit different historical and cultural sites of the Kathmandu valley with our professional guide. You will go for the pilgrimage sites of Hindus temple Pashupatinath, the world biggest Boudhanath stupa and visit Swoyambhunath stupa also known as monkey temple. After exploring the surrounding areas visit historical Kathmandu Durbar square with temple, unique architectures and Kumari (living goddess). Evening pre-trip discussion and introduce with our fellow trekking staff for your adventure trip. Overnight at hotel with Bed & Breakfast basis.

Today, we are travelling early in the morning by bus. The length will depend on the season if there is no rain fall it will takes 7-8 hours to reach Sybru bensi. We can enjoy incredible views of gurgling river and green forest on the way. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Trek from Syabru Bensi Gaun to Lama Hotel (2,470 m) and it takes about 4-5 hours. The trail descends along the ridge on Syabru Bensi. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, from Lama hotel the trail climbs through a forest of hemlock, oaks, maples and rhododendron observing glimpses of langtang Lirung, reaches to Gumanchok (2,800 m) and then climbs to Ghora Tabela (2,970 m) after which it descends to Thangshyap (3,140 m). The trail further climbs langtang, which is the head quarter for Langtang National park. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, from Langtang village the trail climbs gradually to Sindum and to Yamphu (3,640 m). Crossing the Laja Khola then climbs a moraine to a viewpoint where you can see Kyanjin Gompa and the dramatic icefall flowing from Langtang Lirung and Kinshung. Then the trail descends to Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

After having morning breakfast you will hiking Cherkop Ri. If you want to observe the peak of 4,984 meters which show you number of the Himalaya including Tibetan Himalaya. You will have to climb half a day to reach the destination. Here you can see panoramic views of the mountains to the north and south as well, it’s well worth the option half day climb. Back to the Kangin Gompa. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, crossing the Langtang khola below Kyanjin Gompa the trail makes a steep climb through a forest of Rhododendron and juniper. Then the trail reaches the yak pasture of Ngegang. On any day here you can see Yaks peacefully grazing. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, the trail continues south, following streams and moraines and climbs steeply towards the pass. The trail makes a final steep ascent the pass, from the pass the trail descends steeply and enters the Yangri Khola valley. Following the stream through grassy meadows, the trail reaches Keldang. Today, the trail descends a long ridge, making many ups and downs and before heading down to the valley. Then following the ridge line through small settlements, you will reach Dukpu. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

From, Dukpu the trail descends and then make a climb to a pass. The pass offers a stunning view of the Himalaya. The trails descend through pine and Rhododendron forest, then drops steeply to Gekye Gompa. Finally the trail continues its steep descent to the large Sherpa village of Tarke Gyang. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, the trail leaves Tarke Gyang and heads off to meet the pretty Sherpa village, Gangyul (2,520 m). The trail drops a little bit and climbs through deep forests, crossing a number of streams, before reaching Chumik. Making a gentle climb you come to the large village of Shermathang. Making a drop, the trail reaches in the settlements of Nigale and Gyalsha and further to Raithani Gyang (2,290 m). Descending through the Chir pine forest the trek gets to the large fascinating village of Dubha Chaur and finally descending you will reach Melamchi Pul Bazaar. Today, early morning drive back to Kathmandu By local bus or Land rover via exploring Nepalese country side that offer green hills, river, farms and arriving evening time. Overnight at hotel with Bed & Breakfast basis.

Langtang valley - Ganja La Pass trek is suitable for any kind of person who is moderately fit, no previous experience is required. To condition yourself for the trek, some physical fitness programs such as walking, running, swimming and hiking are recommended before you embark on your journey. Any person suffering from a pre-existing medical condition or diseases must seek medical advice before considering any trek.

Yes, our company representative will be there to greet you. He will be displaying your name outside the airport terminal. You will be transferred to your hotel by our private vehicle.

Best season for trekking is usually March-April and October-November but Langtang valley- Ganja La Pass trek can be done in February, June, April, May and December as well.

Weather in the mountains is very difficult to predict. At night it is generally cold and the days are generally warm. The temperature could be as high as 25 degree Celsius to -20 degree Celsius low.

During trek guesthouse does not facilitate with heater or air conditioner, but they have facility of hitting the dining area by providing kerosene or metal heater. USD 2 to USD 5 per person would be applicable to use this service and this is payable directly to the guesthouse.

Depending on nature of travel we provide different vehicle service. We provide tourist vehicles for sightseeing, city tours and airport pickups-drops. The transfer from Kathmandu to Syabru besi and Melamchi pul Bazaar to Kathmandu will be by public bus as there is no facility of any tourist bus in this route. However we can arrange private vehicle if needed.

There are landline telephone in some village along the trekking routes from which you can contact with your family and friends. Some place there is also internet access which you can use by paying some charges. Also you can buy sim card for your cell phone by giving your Xerox copy of your passport and PP size photo.

In the cities, off course yes but once you are outside of the cities, all you have to pay in cash. Also you have exchange the currency in Nepali rupees before you go outside the cities.

Generally, in Kathmandu you can allocate USD 15-20 for lunch and dinner. During trekking USD 10 to 15 per person a day will be enough to buy bottles of water, chocolates, biscuits, pay for the hot shower and a few drinks.

Yes, charging facilities will be available in every guesthouse & lodges but sometime there maybe load shedding problem so it’s better to bring power bank or spare batteries.

There are many restaurants available in Kathmandu city where you can find any delight of your choice. But in trekking route most teahouses menu you may find noodles soup, steam mo:mo, daal bhat, green salad, finger chips, eggs, potatoes, fresh vegetables. You can get tea, coffee, hot lemon, hot chocolate. Every day breakfast, lunch, dinner will be at a lodge.

Along your trek we can add days at your request with additional costs to cover guides, porters, accommodation and food. Please consult with your guide and he will update our office in Kathmandu and we can make the arrangements accordingly. If you are in private or solo trip it would be possible as your itinerary is very flexible where as if you were in group then this group the option would be limited so please make sure you discuss with your group and guide and your guide will update us accordingly.

Lodges mostly serve the vegetarian meals so there is no problem at all for vegetarian. Also we always recommend our clients to eat vegetarian meals to avoid food poisoning. Non-veg meals at the high altitude are not safe for the stomach.

Hot water in bucket will be provided for shower and you have to pay for hot water.

Yes, they have received training from NATHM (Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management).They has also received high altitude first aid training from KEEP (Kathmandu Environmental Education Project).

Actually tipping is not compulsory, but small gesture of thanks to your guides and local porters. The level of the tip should reflect the level of satisfaction from and personal involvement with your guide.
