Everest Gokyo Lake Trekking

Gokyo lake trekking is one of the world’s splendid trekking destination in Everest region. It is a round route via Gokyo – Everest Base Camp, offers great opportunity to observe Nepal’s largest Ngozumpa glacier and chance to witness magnificent views of major himalayan ranges over 8,000 meters including mount Everest, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse and Ama dablam. 

 

The trek starts from Lukla airport after half an hour short breathtaking flight from Kathmandu Tribhuwan airport following up to the Dudh Koshi and Imja river towards a beautiful village Namche. Gokyo lake trek is comparatively harder to Everest base camp trek, path become moderately challenging as you are heading to Renjo La pass. Himalayan Excursion Nepal designed this trek for those trekkers who want to do more fascinating alternative trek of Everest Base Camp trekking. Trekkers can enjoy attractive Sherpa villages, beautiful monasteries and spectacular views of Thamserku over the route. The stunning views from Gokyo Ri is incomparable and worthwhile. Views of Gokyo lake is incredible in the morning time when the water is clam and the sunlight are reflected on the lake.

Itinerary

Arrival at Tribhuwan international airport (1,310 m). Himalayan Excursion Nepal's representatives will meet you in airport and transfer to related hotel. Overnight at hotel with Bed & Breakfast basis.

Today, after morning breakfast you will introduced your trekking guide and you can ask question related to trekking which includes briefing and preparations for the trip. After final briefing you will enjoy sightseeing around Kathmandu valley, one of the biggest Buddhist shrines in the world. After Boudhanath Stupa we visit Pashupatinath which is the most famous Hindu temple in the country, located on the banks of the holy Bagmati river. In Pashupatinath we can see Hindu holy men (sadhus) mediating, pilgrims bathing and funeral pyres burning on the sides of river Bagmati. We also visit Swyambhunath which is also called monkey temple. Overnight at hotel with Bed and Breakfast basis.

Early morning our Guide will pick up you from hotel and transfer to Tribhwan Airport. After 35-minute scenic flight we reach at Lukla Airport. After arrival at the airport guide will brief you and introduce our porters before we begin our trek towards Phakding. After landing at Lukla airport we have time to explore the village while our Sherpa crew sort and load our trekking equipment. Then we begin our trek by descending towards the Dudh-Koshi river where we join the main trail to Namche Bazaar, located just above Chaunrikharka (2,713 m). The walking is easy & after passing through the small village of Ghat (2,550m) it is a short walk to Phakding. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, we continue our trekking along the banks of the Dudh-Koshi, crossing this majestic river many times on exciting suspension bridges laden with breathtaking views. Namche Bazaar known as the Gateway to Everest which is home to many quality restaurants, hotels, lodges, shops, Money exchange, internet cafe & a bakery. Namche is one of the biggest villages along the whole Everest trail. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner basis.

In order to acclimatization we will spend a day here and adjust to the thinning of the air. As well as a short hike to a museum celebrating the traditional customs of the Sherpa people. Today we hike up the Syangboche airstrip & around Everest view hotel. From this point, we can see majestic views of the Himalayas with a stunning sunrise or sunset over the panorama of the Khumbu Peaks. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, our trail climbs out of valley through attractive Rhododendron forest, juniper and large conifers start to appear as the elevation increases making the trekking beautiful in spring. The trail passes through Yak Kharkas & summer settlements. The views of Khumbi la and Tawache are magnificent throughout the day. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner basis.

We climb a ridge for a eye-catching view both up towards Cho Oyu and down the valley to Kengtega then descend to a river & again climbs to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier. After trekking around 5 to 6 hours finally we will reach Machherma. Overnight at guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner basis.

Today, we trek for our final destination, Gokyo (4,790m). We will make camp for 2 nights, we will have couple of sightseeing and hike around Gokyo lake. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, At early in the morning we have steep climb up to the top of Gokyo ri at elevation of 5483 meters, ample to one attempts this trip. There are awesome views of the supper Gokyo valley, the massive Ngozumpa Glacier and an incredible panoramic view of the whole Khumbu Himalayas, such as a giants as Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu nad Gychung Kang can be seen. Those who explore the glacier & Gokyo peak are rewarded. Today we have for acclimatization and after-noon back to the camp. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Gokyo Ri is the highlight of this trip.Early morning, we hike up to the Gokyo Ri. Climbing to Gokyo Ri is obviously strenuous as it is steep up and takes 3 to 4 hours to rach the top. But even from the trial scenery of Gokyo village on the edge of third lake overlooked by Cholatse and the broad Nogzumpa Glacier are mind blowing. We feel like we are surrounded by panoramic mountains like Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku, Kangtega, Taboche, Cholatse, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, Changtse & Pumori. Light of Sunrays kissing the Everest that towers over all surrounding peaks is unlike from Kalapatthar. Our Gokyo Ri visit will be unforgettable life time memories. we trek down to Gokyo. Upon breakfst we trek to Thaknak for overnight scaling by the second lakes and the Ngozumba Glacier. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & dinner basis.

Today, At Early morning before sunrise we have to start our trek & reach the pass by 9-10 am otherwise weather conditions my disturb our journey. We cross over at an altitude of 5,300 meters, we could be exposed to strong winds if crossing too late. We start to climb steeply that is regularly used and easy to follow. However, the problem may arise due to the altitude and snow. It often causes terrible problems to cross the pass if it is covered by snow. As you reach the top, you are rewarded by the breath takingtaking views, then we descend to the Dzongla at noon. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today's walk will be little bit shorter. Thus, we would get more time to observe & relax. we climb down from Dzongla and cross a bridge then transverse through grassy trail, enjoying the view of Lobuche peak we stretch up eventually through a ridge. Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Thamserku Taboche are seen looming prominently. Curving round through the wide gravelly river bed, we will be at Lobuche. Today's trek is quite difficult along the Khumbu Glacier & up to Everest Base camp at 5,365 meters. The closest you can get to Mount Everest without mountaineering equipment. There will likely be a team there about to attempt the summit. The view of the Khumbu icefall from Base camp is spectacular. We return back to Gorak shep for the night. This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. Most of morning in this day is spent climbing Mount Kala pattar, a small peak at 5,545 meters. The ascent is demanding but the climber gets the most magnificent panorama views of Everest, the highest point on the planet at 8,848 meters, towers directly ahead and on all sides loom the other giants, Nuptse, pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse & countless peaks. We make a quick descent to Gorak shep, a tiny hamlet at 5,180 meters then trek down to Periche. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, from Periche we take a slightly different route down to Orsho then to Pangboche village. Here we can see the oldest monastery in the region which contains what is said to be the scalp and bones of a Yeti, or abominable snowmanthe at elevation of 3,860 meters before continuing back to the town of Namche Bazaar at 3,441 meters. We arrive back into Namche Bazaar in the afternoon. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Finally, we return to Lukla where the trek began, which will seem like a lifetime ago. Enjoying time to reflect on the trek as a group and the personal achievement of all those who took part. Also giving you time to explore the town. Overnight at Guesthouse with Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Essential Trip Infos

We assign one porter for every two trekkers. Every trekker should make only 10 kg weight of duffel bag which will be carried by the porter.  If you have more luggages you can leave non-trekking items at the hotel in Kathmandu. 

 

Trekkers should carry daily necessities and their valuables items themselves like mobile phones, camera, Gopro, cash, water bottle, sunscreen, toiletries etc. 

 

Faq

Everest Gokyo lake trek is suitable for any kind of person who is moderately fit, no previous experience is required. To condition yourself for the trek, some physical fitness programs such as walking, running, swimming and hiking are recommended before you embark on your journey. Any person suffering from a pre-existing medical condition or diseases must seek medical advice before considering any trek.

Yes, our company representative will be there to greet you. He will be displaying your name outside the airport terminal. You will be transferred to your related hotel by our private vehicle.

Best season for trekking is usually March-April and October-November but Everest Gokyo lake trek can be done in February, June, April, May and December as well.

Weather in the mountains is very difficult to predict. At night it is generally cold and the days are generally warm. The temperature could be as high as 25 degrees Celsius to -20-degree Celsius low.

During trek guesthouse does not facilitate with heater or air conditioner, but they have facility of hitting the dining area by providing kerosene or metal heater. USD 2 to USD 5 per person would be applicable to use this service and this is payable directly to the guesthouse.

Depending on nature of travel we provide different vehicle service. We provide tourist vehicles for sightseeing, city tours and airport pickups-drops. We book flight ticket through Tara Air, Goma Air and Nepal Airlines air for the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and vice versa.

There is landline telephone in some village along the trekking routes from which you can contact with your family and friends. some place there is also internet access which you can use by paying some charges. Also you can buy sim card for your cell phone by giving your Xerox copy of your passport and PP size photo.

In the cities, off course yes but once you are outside of the cities, all you have to pay in cash. Also you have exchange the currency in Nepali rupees before you go outside the cities.

Generally, in Kathmandu you can allocate USD 15-20 for lunch and dinner. During trekking USD 10 to 15 per person a day will be enough to buy bottles of water, chocolates, biscuits, pay for the hot shower and a few drinks.

Yes, charging facilities will be available in every guesthouse & lodges but sometime there maybe load shedding problem so it’s better to bring power bank or spare batteries.

There are many restaurants available in Kathmandu city where you can find any delight of your choice. But in trekking route most teahouses. On the menu you may find noodles soup, steam mo:mo, daal bhat, green salad, finger chips, eggs, potatoes, fresh vegetables. You can get tea, coffee, hot lemon, hot chocolate. Every day breakfast, lunch, dinner will be at a lodge.

Along your trek we can add days at your request with additional costs to cover guides, porters, accommodation and food. Please consult with your guide and he will update our office in Kathmandu and we can make the arrangements accordingly. If you are in private or solo trip it would be possible as your itinerary is very flexible where as if you were in group, then this group the option would be limited so please make sure you discuss with your group and guide and your guide will update us accordingly.

Lodges mostly serve the vegetarian meals so there is no problem at all for vegetarian. Also we always recommend our clients to eat vegetarian meals to avoid food poisoning. Non-veg meals at the high altitude is not safe for the stomach.

Hot water in bucket will be provided for shower and you have to pay for hot water.

Yes, they have received training from NATHM (Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management). They have also received high altitude first aid training from KEEP (Kathmandu Environmental Education Project).

Actually tipping is not compulsory, but small gesture of thanks to your guides and local porters. The level of the tip should reflect the level of satisfaction from and personal involvement with your guide.

Cancellation notice is required, minimum of 25 days prior to trip departure. If the reason is valid the trip shall then be termed as cancelled and the cancellation charge of 30% of the trip amount would be deducted from the advance paid.
