Upper Mustang Tiji Festival Tour 2025

Tiji Festival is one of the major and colorful event, usually takes place around mid - May and lasts for 3 days. Tiji festival is stand on the mythological story of walled city Lo-Manthang, it is belief that before fifteenth century there was a deity named Dorje Jono who fights against his demon father and save the kingdom of Mustang from destruction. The monks of Lo-manthang Monastery perform various Tibetan rituals dances wearing various kinds of colorful costumes & masks during celebration in order to chase the demon away from Kingdom of Mustang.

 

Upper Mustang Tiji Festival Jeep Tour combines through Mustang’s alluring local villages, spectacular dry landscapes, ancient temple & monastery, amazing wall cave and magnificent views of most iconic mountains including mount Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and many other incredible snowcapped peaks before arriving at the walled city of Lo-Manthang. This tour offers opportunity to experience the adventure Jeep safari at world’s deepest river gorge Kali Gandaki and also chance to know more about culture, tradition, food and unique life style of Tibetan.

 

Restricted area permits 

Upper Mustang was a restricted area until it was opened in 1992 for visitors which makes it one of the most conserved area in the world. Tourism to Upper Mustang is still regulated and tourist need to get a special permit to enter restricted area. In order to get the special permit, you need to have minimum two peoples in a group. If you are solo traveler, we can arrange special permit by group joining with other travelers. Special Permit charge for restricted area costs USD 500 per person for 9 nights and 10 days, starting & ending in Kagbeni.

Itinerary

Our company representative will meet you in airport and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel on Bed & Breakfast Basis.

Today, after morning breakfast we will start sightseeing around Kathmandu valley visit UNESCO world heritage sites Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath, Kathmandu durbar square and Boudha stupa. Overnight at hotel on Bed & Breakfast basis.

Today, early morning drive to Pokhara and transfer to hotel. After refreshment at hotel we will have boating at Phewa lake and visit TalBarahi temple located center of Phewa Lake. Overnight at hotel on Bed & Breakfast basis.

After breakfast at Pokhara hotel, we will start our drive to west of the Pokhara city to reach Beni. Up to Beni road is black top but after Beni we will drive through off road. We will drive through Kaligandaki river gorge which is deepest gorge in the world. We will enjoy bath at natural hot spring in tatopani. Overnight at guesthouse with breakfast, lunch and dinner basis.

After breakfast, we will drive through beautiful village Kalopani, Ghasa, Marpha, Jomsom and reach Hindu Temple Muktinath. Jeep is not allowed to Muktinath village so we have to do short hike to reach temple area. We will explore beautiful Muktinath temple, take bath at holy 108 taps and visit Jal devi temple where you can see the fire lighting itself with help of natural gas. After visiting Mutinath temple we will drive to Kagbeni for overnight stay. Overnight at guesthouse with breakfast, lunch and dinner basis.

Today after breakfast will visit Kagbeni monastery and old villages of Kagbeni. Our guide to check in your special permit at office in Kagbeni. After completing our permit formalities we will drive to Ghami village. On the way you will explore many beautiful villages including Chhusang, Samar, Chelle, Syangboche, Ghiling etc.  Overnight at guesthouse with breakfast, lunch and dinner basis.

Today, after breakfast we will drive to Lo-Manthang. Explore Lo-Manthang village, Chode Gonpa, Jampa Gonpa and Thupchen Gonpa. Around 2pm we will enjoy Tiji festival. Overnight at Guesthouse on Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, we will drive to Chhosar cave and visit Tibetan monastery and day time we will enjoy second day of Tiji festival. Overnight at Guesthouse on Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis. 

Today, after early morning breakfast we will explore around Lo-Manthang and know culture, tradition and lifestyle of local people. Day time we will enjoy last day of Tiji festival. Overnight at Guesthouse on Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, after early breakfast we will drive to Chhusang and have lunch and drive to Jomsom. We will visit beautiful Dhumba lake which is nearby Jomsom.  Overnight at Guesthouse on Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner basis.

Today, after breakfast we continue our drive to reach Pokhara city. Overnight at hotel with bed and breakfast basis.

Today, after breakfast you will transfer to Pokhara airport and fly to Kathmandu. Once you check in Kathmandu take a short nap at hotel, your free time you can do souvenir shopping for your family, friends and relatives. Overnight at hotel with bed and breakfast basis.

Today, our representative will meet you and transfer to airport for your home country or onward destination.

Yes, our company representative will be there to greet you. He will be displaying your name outside the airport terminal. You will be transferred to your hotel by our private vehicle.

Best season for trip is usually March-April and October-November but Upper Mustang Tiji festival tour can be done in February, June, April, May and December as well.

Weather in the mountains is very difficult to predict. At night it is generally cold and the days are generally warm. The temperature could be as high as 30 degree Celsius to -15 degree Celsius low.

During trip guesthouse does not facilitate with heater or air conditioner, but they have facility of hitting the dining area by providing kerosene or metal heater. USD 2 to USD 5 per person would be applicable to use this service and this is payable directly to the guesthouse.

Depending on nature of travel we provide different vehicle service. we provide tourist vehicles for sightseeing, city tours and airport pickups-drops. We provide tourist bus transfer service from Kathmandu-Pokhara-Kathmandu. We book flight ticket through Simrik air, Buddha Air, Yeti air for the flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and vice versa.

There are landline telephone in some village along the trip routes from which you can contact with your family and friends. Some place there is also internet access which you can use by paying some charges. Also you can buy sim card for your cell phone by giving your Xerox copy of your passport and PP size photo.

In the cities, off course yes but once you are outside of the cities, all you have to pay in cash. Also you have exchange the currency in Nepali rupees before you go outside the cities.

Generally, in Kathmandu and Pokhara you can allocate USD 15-20 for lunch and dinner. During trekking USD 10 to 15 per person a day will be enough to buy bottles of water, chocolates, biscuits, pay for the hot shower and a few drinks.

Yes, charging facilities will be available in every guesthouse & lodges but sometime there maybe load shedding problem so it’s better to bring power bank or spare batteries.

There are many restaurants available in Kathmandu and Pokhara city where you can find any delight of your choice. But in this trip route most of the tea houses menu you may find noodles soup, steam mo:mo, daal bhat, green salad, finger chips, eggs, potatoes, fresh vegetables. You can get tea, coffee, hot lemon, hot chocolate. Every day breakfast, lunch, dinner will be at a lodge.

Along your trek we can add days at your request with additional costs to cover guides, accommodation and food. Please consult with your guide and he will update our office in Kathmandu and we can make the arrangements accordingly. If you are in private or solo trip it would be possible as your itinerary is very flexible where as if you were in group then this group the option would be limited so please make sure you discuss with your group and guide and your guide will update us accordingly.

Lodges mostly serve the vegetarian meals so there is no problem at all for vegetarian. Also we always recommend our clients to eat vegetarian meals to avoid food poisoning. Non-veg meals at the high altitude are not safe for the stomach.

Hot water in bucket will be provided for shower and you have to pay for hot water.

Yes, they have received training from NATHM (Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management).They has also received high altitude first aid training from KEEP (Kathmandu Environmental Education Project).

Actually tipping is not compulsory, but small gesture of thanks to your guides. The level of the tip should reflect the level of satisfaction from and personal involvement with your guide.
